I cancelled Air Peace flights because I don't want blood on my hands - Allen Onyema

Amid the strike action by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), the Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has said he cancelled all flights of the airline because he doesn't want to have blood on his hands.

NiMet is the agency responsible for issuing CNH (Current Nowcast of Hazardous Weather) reports, critical for safe landings of aircraft, especially during this season of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.

With NiMET on strike, Onyema is of the opinion that operating flights is tantamount to endangering the lives of passengers.

According to him, Nigeria is currently experiencing unfavourable weather for flights, adding that it would be disastrous to operate without NiMET's guidance.

In a viral video, he said, "If NiMET has not called off its strike, cancel every Air Peace flight now, with immediate effect. People's lives and the safety of our crew are first and foremost."

He further stated that he's not bothered that other airlines are still operational amid the NiMET's strike

"Look at the thunderstorm everywhere. Look at the kind of weather we are going into and NiMET, which is supposed to provide guidance, is on strike.

"I don't want to hear of any incident or whatsoever. If people want to collect their money, let them. If they want a refund to enable them to fly elsewhere, let them collect it. I don't want to have blood on my hands," Onyema said.
