Hunger protest could have led to Tinubu’s impeachment - Prominent APC chieftain

A former vice-chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, believes that the End Bad Governance protest that occurred across the country could have led to President Bola Tinubu’s impeachment.

On Sunday, August 11, 2024, Lukman stated in a statement that some governors could have been legally removed from their positions based on the concerns raised by the protesters.

Lukman said, "Ideally, if democratic structures of the country were functionally working, such as political parties and the national assembly (NASS), with what is going on in the country, President Tinubu and many state governors are candidates for immediate impeachment.

“The comatose reality, which has reduced the national assembly to a rubber stamp, with political parties that are nothing more than leprous fingers, is responsible for the current high levels of frustration and desperation of Nigerians to register their anger through protests."

Following the economic hardships in the country, Nigerians mobilized and organized a ten-day nationwide protest against bad governance, corruption, insecurity, high cost of living, and other issues.

The protests took place in Lagos, Jos, Sokoto, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Abuja and other states.

As the protest concluded on Saturday, August 10, and dissatisfied with President Tinubu’s government’s response to their concerns, the organisers have threatened to hold another protest.
