Human mismanagement responsible for poverty in north – Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has called on northern stakeholders to not be afraid of any national reform.

Sani, who represents Kaduna Central in the 8th National Assembly, stated this on Wednesday while speaking to staff of the New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN) in Kaduna.

Sani argued that the North’s poverty and hunger are not a result of divine will, but rather the result of human mismanagement, given the region’s wealth of resources, large population, and favorable climate. He stressed that these issues are man-made and avoidable.

Specifically, Sani called out Northern leaders who have prospered thanks to the investments made by the Sardauna. He urged them to give back to the communities that helped create their wealth. “The North has no reason to fear any reform. The North has no reason to be hungry. We have the population and resources; we have no reason to be poor,” he remarked.

He continued, “I want to use this opportunity to call on leaders from the North who have benefited from Sardauna’s investments to look back and give back. There is no president or governor or lawmaker who has not benefited from the benevolence of Nigeria.

“Most of them have poor parents who would not have been able to afford the education they have, from primary to university. It is now that some of them have amassed wealth that they are sending their children to school abroad and even going for medical tourism.”
