How flouting of ban on night operations led to death of EFCC operative in Anambra

The operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may have flouted the order of their Executive Chairman when they raided some internet fraudsters, aka Yahoo boys, in Awka, Anambra State, an operation that led to the death of their colleague, an Assistant Superintendent, Halisu Sahabi.

Halisu was said to have been shot with a pump action by a suspected Yahoo boy who refused to grant EFCC operatives access to his house

Sources say when the operatives knocked on his door at night, the suspect, identified as Chukwuka Josiah Ikechukwu Nnamdi, refused to let them on the grounds that they might be kidnappers.

When the operatives badged in, he opened fire with his father's pump action and shot Halisu who was the first to enter the house.

Halisu who later succumb to his injuries was flown to Sokoto where he was buried according to Islamic rights.

Before the incident, reports say he was planning to get married in coming weeks.

EFCC bans sting operations at night

Meanwhile, the operation carried out by Halisu and his colleagues may have flouted the directive issues by the Executive Chairman, EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, that sting operations at night time be stopped in all the commands of the EFCC..

Olukoyede gave the directive in Abuja on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, in reaction to the arrest of 69 suspected internet fraudsters by operatives of the Ibadan Zonal of the Commission in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

At the time, many Nigerians condemned the action of the EFCC, forcing the anti-graft agency to ban night operations.
