He supported the club as a kid — Mikel Obi outlines why Chelsea should revisit Osimhen negotiations

John Mikel Obi has reiterated his desire to see Victor Osimhen at Stamford Bridge next season, outlining several strong reasons why the Blues should revisit the negotiation table for the Nigerian.

Chelsea came close to securing Victor Osimhen's signature last summer, but the deal fell through on transfer deadline day after both parties failed to reach a concrete agreement on the player's personal terms.

Turkish Süper Lig giants Galatasaray seized the opportunity with aplomb to sign Osimhen on a season-long loan back in September.

The gamble has paid off, as the Super Eagles striker has racked up 28 goals and provided five assists in 31 competitive matches for the Yellow and Reds.

As the summer transfer window draws near, Mikel Obi has urged his former club to go the extra mile to sign the former African Footballer of the Year at any cost.

Speaking on his Obi One podcast, the former Chelsea midfielder outlined several reasons why the Blues should revisit the Victor Osimhen conversation.

“Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this Football Club,” he said.

“His idol is Drogba. He will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, and come for Drogba’s records. I’m telling you, that would be his mission.”

“If the club chooses not to pursue it… then well, fair enough, good luck to them. But the good thing about it is we know where we left it; we can literally pick up the phone and get him straight in the door.”

“Get him in!” he concluded.

With his €75 million release clause, Osimhen is expected to leave Galatasaray at the end of the current campaign.
