'He plays for the team' — Former Napoli striker weighs in on Osimhen vs. Lukaku debate

The conversation surrounding who is the better striker between Victor Osimhen and Romelu Lukaku is slowly gaining traction in Italy.

Having signed a three-year deal with Napoli in June, Antonio Conte brought in Lukaku from Chelsea this summer to replace Osimhen, who was expected to leave the club.

The former Capocannoniere winner was expelled from the Napoli first team after falling out with the club due to his failed move to either Chelsea or Al Ahli on transfer deadline day.

Osimhen was also stripped of his iconic number nine shirt, which was handed to new signing Romelu Lukaku.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding his future, Osimhen eventually managed to engineer a move away from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium joining Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray on a season-long loan.

In a recent development, former Napoli striker Germán Denis believes Conte made the right decision by choosing the Belgium international over the Nigerian.

“We saw a Lukaku in form, even if Conte knows perfectly well what he lacks. He is a Lukaku who is very generous, he plays for the team, yesterday he made two assists as an attacking midfielder,” the former Atalanta striker said as quoted by Tribal Football.

“Lukaku in place of Osimhen? I don’t know if Osimhen would have been as suitable for Napoli as Lukaku is with Conte. Napoli made the right choice,” he added.

Lukaku has registered three goals and five assists in six Serie A appearances, propelling Antonio Conte's side to the top of the Serie A table.

Osimhen, on the other hand has also managed two goals and four assists for Galatasaray in four Super Lig appearances.
