'He followed me everywhere, even to the dressing room' — When Thierry Henry named Taribo West as the toughest defender he faced

Former Arsenal and Barcelona forward Thierry Henry reiterated why former Super Eagles defender Taribo West is the toughest defender he faced in his career.

The former French international revealed this during a quick-fire question session on CBS Sports with hosts Kate Abdo, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards, and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher.

When asked about the toughest defender he faced, the 2009 UEFA Champions League winner with Barcelona said:

“Paul Scholes. For a direct opponent, I would go back in the days and say Taribo West."

Jamie Carragher responded, “Nigeria. Inter Milan.”

Henry continued, “Because (at Auxerre), they did man-marking. He followed you everywhere, even in the dressing room.”

Taribo West featured for some of the greatest clubs in Europe, including the two Milan clubs, AC Milan and Inter Milan.

The former footballer-turned-pastor was noted for his aggressive and no-nonsense style of defending.

He was instrumental in Nigeria's 1996 Olympic gold medal-winning team and also featured in multiple African Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cups.
