The Senior Pastor Of Agape Christian Ministries, Funke Felix-Adejumo, has been ordained as a bishop in the body of Christ.
Felix-Adejumo was ordained by Bishop Francis Wale Oke, President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), at a service witnessed by many clergymen.
Oke said, "Upon the foundation of this episcopal oath of ministry, I Bishop Francis Wale Oke, by the Grace of God, a Prelate of Calvary Grace International College of Bishops, hereby pronounce you, Reverend Doctor Mrs Funke Itunu Adejumo, qualified to be canonically consecrated as a Bishop in the body of Christ."
Felix Adejumo, who had her husband present during the ceremony, was then given a bishop's robe and attire, including a certificate and a rod to signify her new position.
A Facebook user, Bro Chima Jonah, described the ceremony as a "pure perversion of holy scripture and nothing more than that."
According to him, "What many are practising today is what I call perverted Christianity. According to the Holy Bible, the only people permitted to be bishops are men, not women."
To buttress his stance, Jonah quoted 1 Timothy 3:1-2, which reads, "If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach."
His words were also corroborated by one Pastorr Eteng who said, "The office of a bishop is 100 per cent for men, not women, Unless and except this woman is the man of the home and her husband is the woman."
Kiselova Likavo said, "The men ordaining this woman here show that they do not know the Bible."
However, Ijiade Blessing had something different to say after seeing a video of Felix-Adejumo getting ordained a bishop.
He said, "God uses both men and women for His work and His glory. Women can work for God just as men do. Jesus had many women followers who played a great role in the helping ministry. Just as God calls men into ministry, so also He calls women into ministry.
