Finally, Nigerians react to viral video that got Sowore arrested

Nigerians on social media have taken a bite at the viral video that led to the arrest of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore.

In the video, Sowore can be seen confronting police officers conducting a stop and search on the busy road, accusing them of creating unnecessary traffic with their activity.

He subsequently shared the video on social media accusing the police officers of extortion along the airport road in Lagos. His actions led to his invitation and subsequent arrest.

Upon arriving at the police facility, Sowore was given bail conditions that he rejected, describing them as illegal.

The conditions required Sowore to provide a level 16 civil servant as a surety and surrender his international passport.

Taking to his social media page, Sowore wrote, “I refuse to participate in any arrangement that undermines my personal integrity. I’d rather remain in custody until this joke is over.”

The reports have generated several reactions on social media with former Senator Shehu Sani calling for his immediate release.

Reacting to the recent development, Shehu Sani wrote, “Sowore’s fundamental human rights should be respected. He should be released and not detained “indefinitely”.
