Former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai, has said the National Security Adviser, NSA Nuhu Ribadu, must be suffering from amnesia after denying that he once labelled President Bola Tinubu as 'most corrupt' politician.
Ribadu denied the allegation as leveled by a political analyst, Mohammed Naja'atu, in a video on TikTok.
He then demanded an apology from Naja'atu in a letter issued by his lawyer.
Reacting, El-rufai recalled a 2017 report by Daily Trust which quoted Ribadu as vowing to frustrate corrupt politicians, while addressing newsmen at the Presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
In the report, Ribadu singled out Tinubu who was the governor of Lagos State at the time, his Abia State counterpart, Orji Uzor Kalu, and Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State.
He said, "Tinubu and the rest (other governors) should consider themselves as very lucky. They ought to have been where Joshua Dariye (the impeached Plateau State governor), Ayo Fayose (the impeacfied Ekiti State governor) and DSP Alamaiseigha (former Bayelsa State governor, also impeached) are today. They cannot escape."
In a post on X, El-rufai said, "Nuhu must have serious amnesia. Najaatu’s statement is accurate.
"The record of proceedings in the Senate will confirm that Nuhu made those statements, sometime in 2006.
"The subsequent Daily Trust report below of February 2007, reconfirms the essence of the statements.
"The conclusions of the Federal Executive Council in 2006, which can be subpoenaed from the Cabinet Secretariat of the SGF’s office contain the allegations.
"In that Special FEC meeting in which I was a member, Nuhu’s EFCC made similar presentations accusing many sitting officials, sometime in 2006.
"These Council Conclusions will further remove all doubts.
"This is for the record and to remind the morally-flexible that at some point in our national life, silence is no longer golden."
MyNigeria reported that Naja'atu has maintained her position that Ribadu once labelled Tinubu as 'most corrupt' politician, despite a threat of litigation.
