El-Rufai takes Kaduna Assembly to court over N432 billion investigation

The former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the Kaduna State House of Assembly regarding the N432 billion investigation findings.

El-Rufai’s son, Bello, disclosed that his father took legal action against the assembly for defaming his character.

He stated that the accusations made against him were baseless and false.

In a post on X, Bello wrote: “Mallam Nasir El-Rufai filed a lawsuit against the Kaduna State House of Assembly today for Defamation of his Character, amongst other spurious, unfounded allegations levelled against his person.

“I advise they start compiling legal fees to defend their lies in court.”

Following El-Rufai’s tenure as governor of Kaduna State, the new government accused his administration of corruption and implicated him in the misappropriation of N423 billion.

During a town hall meeting on March 30th, 2024, Governor Uba Sani disclosed that the state had inherited a significant debt of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual obligations from the previous administration.

Sani explained that this debt burden had compelled the state to allocate more than 70% of its resources towards repaying the inherited debts.

As a result, the Kaduna State House of Assembly established an ad-hoc committee to investigate the state’s financial transactions from May 29th, 2015 to May 29, 2023, covering El-Rufai’s tenure in office until the end of his second term.
