Vice President Kashim Shettima shared his thoughts about the British politician who served as the leader of the opposition and leader of the Conservative Party following her denigrating comments about Nigeria.
Kemi Badenoch, born to Nigerian parents, made the news after she accused Nigerian politicians of using public funds for their private matters.
After she was elected as the UK Conservative Party leader in November 2024, the federal government, through the Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, attempted to contact her. However, Chairman of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, stated that her office received no response from Badenoch.
In response to her actions, Shettima noted that Kemi Badenoch has every right to remove the Kemi from her name if she finds Nigerians displeasing.
According to the vice president, despite her criticisms, he believes Nigerians are proud of her.
He said, “Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the British Labour or Conservative Party. We are proud of her in spite of her efforts at denigrating her nation of origin.
“She is entitled to her own opinions; she has even every right to remove the Kemi from her name but that does not underscore the fact that the greatest black nation on earth is the nation called Nigeria.
“One out of every three, four black men is a Nigerian and by 2050, Nigeria will surpass the United States, and will be the third most populous nation on earth.”
