As the protest enters its second day, protesters have gathered in large numbers to embark on a peaceful rally in various parts of the country.
Residents in Lagos, Abuja, Oyo, Ogun and Port Harcourt took to the streets to demand a better nation.
The protest, which began on Thursday, August 1, 2024, has seen thousands of Nigerians protesting across the states. While some states have had successful protests, others have experienced violence, bloodshed, looting and destruction of properties.
The youths came out chanting, holding placards, and rallying peacefully against hunger, economic hardship, insecurity, corruption, and for better governance.
In Oyo State, protesters marched through the streets in a peaceful and cordial manner. Residents of Abuja were not left out, as they joined the protest on the second day.
Protesters in Ogun State were seen on the streets chanting and singing solidarity songs, aiming to alert the government about their pursuit of better economic stability, a reduction in food prices, and affordable utilities, among others. On the placards were messages like, “Place all politicians on minimum wage" and “End bad governance.”
Some states have imposed a curfew due to the violence and loss of lives during the protests on the first day.
