Day 2: Police attack hunger protesters in Abuja with water cannon

Nigerians have taken to social media to share videos of the police shooting tear gas at unarmed, peaceful protesters.

On Friday, August 2, 2024, the protesters were seen gathered together, singing solidarity songs. Suddenly there was a break out as they could be seen running and taking cover for their lives as the police shot teargas at the protesters.

Some of the protesters were hurt in the protest, as tears were seen dripping from their eyes. These protesters blamed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike for the recent happening.

The protesters claimed that they plan to return after regrouping, as they have no plans to back down from exercising their constitutional rights.

In Katsina State, a video showed how a water canon carelessly rammed into a police truck, killing an officer.

The police water cannon was seen attempting to disperse the protesters by spaying water on them; unfortunately, the cannon killed the police officer.
