Senator Dino Melaye has taken a swipe at Umar Damagum, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a post shared on his social media page, Melaye stated that Damagun lacks the dignity and decorum of a typical northerner.
The former Kogi Central Senator claims that Damagun’s paymasters will soon be taught elementary politics 101, as he has not learned from past primary elections held in Port Harcourt and Abuja.
Posting on X, Melaye wrote: “Damagum, his paymasters will be taught elementary politics 101. The lessons of Port Harcourt and Abuja presidential primaries have not been learnt. It is too early to determine the day at noon. I strongly doubt if Damagum has the DNA of the North. He totally lacks the dignity and decorum of a typical northerner.”
The PDP has been entangled in a leadership crisis even before the removal of the former acting National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu.
In a recent report, a faction of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) suspended Damagum along with the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade.
However, the Abuja Federal High Court prevented the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the PDP’s Board of Trustees (BoT) from removing Damagum as the party’s acting National Chairman.
The court ruled that no other person must be recognized as the PDP National Chairman except Damagum until the party’s national convention, scheduled for December 2025.
This comes following a fresh plot unfolding within the ranks of the party to not only retain the incumbent acting national chairman, Iliya Damagum, for the remainder of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s tenure but also get him elected for a substantive tenure at the 2025 national convention of the party.
