In a recent development, the Cross River Government, led by Governor Bassey Out, has demolished a historic monolith structure.
Reports indicate that it has been replaced with a statue of Jesus Christ as a shepherd leading his flocks. Additionally, the flag of Israel has been hung on the staff of the statue.
The monolith, known as the Ikom monoliths, is part of a series of volcanic-stone monoliths from the area of Ikom. The Ejagham people are believed to have engraved the monoliths around 200 CE.
The monolith stands between 0.3 and 1.8 metres (1 and 6 feet) high and is laid out in some 30 circles located around Alok in the Ikom area of Cross River State.
This change has sparked mixed reactions on social media.
__thegoodman: Devil has been in charge of the state , let us try Jesus in that state.
djfestival11: It's funny how Nigerias destroy their own culture and practice other people's culture
ugezujugezu: Another heartbreaking moment. Where are the true sons and daughters of the soil?
xyzchen0: Africa is still a slave to religion, countries are protecting old sites but in Africa we destroy things that share identity with us and put up colonial worshipping idols. They even put the Isreal flag same people persecuting Christians and Muslims in Israel, Gaza and the west bank
okolifortune: He didn’t have to destroy the other historical monolith. That’s a symbol of our people’s heritage, culture and history. We need to understand that Christianity and the African belief system are not mutually exclusive. They can co-exist peacefully.
