The Ekiti Magistrate Court has denied embattled human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi bail and sent him back to jail.
On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Farotimi was arraigned in court for the ruling of his bail application but was adjourned until December 20, 2024.
This is a result of the alleged defamation filed by the founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), Aare Afe Babalola.
At the court, the counsel to the police, Samson Osobu, proved that the bail application submitted by the defendant was incompetent and irregular.
In response to the ruling, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore took to his social media page to express his frustration over the court postponing the bail application.
He accused Peter Obi of being responsible for the recent development following his visit to Afe Babalola to address the ongoing issue.
Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, confirmed this in a post on his X handle on Tuesday.
“The ruling on @delefarotimi’s bail application was today adjourned till December 20.
“Dele Farotimi has been sent back to prison for the next 10 days. See what begging has done? #FreeDeleFarotimiNow.”
