Celebrations in Kano as Muhammadu Sanusi II is reinstated as Emir after four years

A grand celebration is taking place in Kano as Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, who was deposed four years ago, is reinstated by Governor Abba Kyari on Friday, May 24, 2024.

Sanusi arrived at the Kano Government House to officially receive his appointment letter and to resume his duties as the sole first-class Emir of the state.

This event follows the Kano State House of Assembly's decision on Thursday, May 23, 2024, to repeal the law that established five Emirates in the state.

This law was enacted by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and resulted in the removal of all current Emirs, with the exception of the central Emir of Kano.

Dressed elegantly in his traditional robe, Sanusi was greeted by family, guests, and fellow traditional rulers.

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, had previously provided reasons for the reinstatement of the deposed Emir, Lamido Sanusi, citing it as the fulfillment of a campaign promise.

He expressed that the return of Muhammadu Sanusi II to the throne is expected to foster peace and prosperity within the state.

Furthermore, Governor Yusuf issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Aminu Ado Bayero and four other former first-class chiefs to vacate their palaces and hand over all properties of the emirate to the office of the Deputy Governor.
