Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has called out Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party for his silence on the killings in the South East.
He bemoaned Obi’s failure to address the issues happening in the south eastern part of the country while sharing his thoughts on events in other states.
He cited an example of the killing of civilians and soldiers in Plateau, where Peter Obi immediately issued a statement condemning the act and calling for a rapid response.
Omokri also mentioned another instance where the former governor of Anambra State spoke out against the demolition of the Landmark Beach Resort within hours of the incident. However, when issues in the southeast arise, he goes blind and deaf.
Taking to his X page, Omokri wrote,
“For the past week, the Southeast of Nigeria has been enmeshed in killings and attacks of soldiers and police officers in Anambra and Imo State. I find it strange that Peter Obi, who is always quick to point out lesser happenings in other geopolitical zones, is strangely quiet. Two police officers were killed in Anambra last week. Soldiers attacked in Imo two days ago. Why is Peter Obi silent?
When the brothers, Chinedu and Omama, were burnt to death by a mob in Onitsha, Anambra, Peter Obi said nothing. He did not condemn it. He did not call for the arrest of the perpetrators. He pretended not to hear about it. But after sixteen brave Nigerian soldiers were killed in Okuama, Delta State, Peter Obi politicised it with a statement titled 'Two wrongs can never make a right.'
When there were killings of civilians and soldiers in Plateau. Mr. Obi INSTANTLY condemned the act and called for a RAPID response.
It took Peter Obi less than twenty-four hours to condemn Lagos for the lawful demolition of Landmark Beach Resort. It took him less than 12 hours to condemn the Plateau killings. It took him four hours to criticise the Federal Government over the Benue killings.
But once the killing is in the Southeast, Peter Obi will suddenly go blind, deaf and mute.
Mr. Obi should be reminded that his parents named him Peter Obi, not Bitter Obi!”
