Atalanta BC and Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman will be desperate to end their worrying goalscoring drought and three-match losing streak when they host Bologna in a crucial Serie A clash on Sunday (today).
The Bergamo-based club, who are still occupying third position in the Italian top flight, have slumped to consecutive defeats against Inter Milan, Fiorentina and Lazio without finding the back of the net in any of those encounters.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s men now face a stern test against a Bologna side who sit just one point and one place behind them in the table, with both teams battling for Champions League qualification.
Atalanta’s recent poor form has seen them lose momentum at a critical stage of the season, with their most recent setback coming in a 1-0 home defeat to Lazio last weekend. Despite dominating possession, La Dea managed only two shots on target, highlighting their current attacking struggles.
Lookman, who has been one of Atalanta’s key performers this season, has gone off the boil in recent weeks alongside fellow forwards Mateo Retegui and Charles De Ketelaere. The Nigeria international will be keen to rediscover his scoring touch against Bologna.
The Bergamaschi have never suffered four consecutive league defeats under Gasperini’s long tenure, but that unwanted record now looms large. Even more concerning is the fact that Atalanta are the only team in Serie A’s top half yet to win at home in 2025, collecting just four points at the Gewiss Stadium this calendar year.
The hosts’ goal drought could also reach historic proportions, as they risk going five straight home games without scoring for the first time ever in Serie A.
Bologna arrive in fine form, having put together a six-match winning streak before holding second-placed Napoli to a draw in their previous outing. The Rossoblu have also won on their last three visits to Bergamo, suggesting they could be primed to leapfrog Atalanta in the standings.
Lookman has scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 32 appearances across the Serie A and the Champions League this season, which is already better than his 17-goal tally from last season.
