Daily Trust's findings have revealed that the State House spent N244,654,350 on the purchase and supply of tires in a single day.

Checks and data gathered from GovSpend, a portal that documents expenditures at the Presidential Villa, revealed that the State House made payments for an unspecified quantity of bulletproof tires and Westlake tires during the week marking President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office.

The data shows that N200,583,390, N38,070,000, and N6,000,960 were spent on these items on May 21, 2024.

According to the document, two separate payments were made for the purchase and supply of tires (quantity not specified) for bulletproof vehicles and another five armored bulletproof tires to Obi-Wealth Enterprises Nigeria Limited (RC-640684) for the sums of N200,583,390 and N38,070,000.

A background check on the company on the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) website, however, shows that the company is inactive.

The other company, Hommy & Fay Investments Limited, which handled the other supply of an unspecified amount of tires, is active on the CAC portal. It supplied Westlake tires (315/80R22) for N6,000,960.

Payments for the tires were made barely 24 hours after Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu, apologized to Nigerians over the nationwide hardship, as reported by Daily Trust.
