Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has dared his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory following plans to arrest some of his supporters.

On Tuesday morning, June 18, 2024, Fubara in a broadcast ordered the Local Government Administrators to take over the affairs of the Local Government Chairmen hours after their tenure had expired on Monday, June 17, 2024.

This move did not go down well with some LGA chairmen who attempted to resist the order. However, some Rivers youth put up a fierce resistance against those who tried entering their offices.

This caused unrest in Rivers State on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, as a result of Fubara’s fight against tenure extension in the State.

Reacting to the situation, the Governor assured the people of Rivers that there would be no extension of tenure.

He also noted that he is aware of a plan to arrest his supporters who stood with him against the LGA chairmen, adding that “they will have to go through him to arrest his supporters who stand for truth.”

“We started hearing some disturbing news from some LGAs of an invasion of council secretariat and its really unfortunate. So, we’ve called a security council meeting so that the needful will be done.

We are also aware that our enemy is planning a lot of things but we will not fall into that plot where we will allow him or them to destroy the peace that we are enjoying in the State.

Let me also say this, I am aware that there is also a grand plan to come and arrest some of our supporters. This time around, you will have to pass through me to arrest them because I don’t think there is anything those people following us have done other than stand on the side of truth.

If it will cost us our lives to stand on the part of truth, we will do that and I will be the one that will lead this cause. Let me assure everyone especially the great people of Rivers State, the law is the law. The law has said that there is no extension of tenure.

And whoever is assuring anybody anywhere, I advise them to desist from it. Because peace is what we need in this State.”
