Abia State Governor Alex Otti was emotional after witnessing the poor living conditions of students at the Abia State University.

During an unannounced visit to the hostels and faculty buildings, the Governor was shocked and concerned by the deplorable state of the facilities.

Addressing the students, Alex Otti apologized and promised to provide better accommodation for them. He also mentioned plans to demolish the terrible structure housing the Law Faculty and construct a new one.

In a video he said, “I’m so embarrassed. This is not a condition that is conducive for you to learn.”

Alex Otti’s comment generated comments on social media.

@gmevent_10: Rather than spend billions to a contractor, engage the departments within the institution to make the renovation with direct labour coming from the students.

Mechanical, Electrical, Build Tech, Q.Surveyors, Wood tech, Masonary, Estate Management, Accountants, Business Admin. Etc.

They build and take responsibility for it.

Fire the Governing Council, if there is one. They are all useless!

They collect school fees. However little, no human being should be housed in such an environment.

What is the purpose of education in this country, if so called “professors” can tolerate such an environment for students?

Truth be told.. before Otti wasn’t there a Gov in that state?

@itsabefe: Only if our government gave us conducive environment. Nigeria would be a leading country in the World . Students learn in this kind of environment and still go out and compete with top talents in the World. Our resilience and vigour is extraordinary
