Agege, Surulere top worst air quality list; Lekki boasts best air quality

Agege and Surulere have been ranked at the top of the list of areas with the worst air quality in Lagos State. This was revealed in the latest Air Quality Index from the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).

The LASEPA’s Air Quality Index report for October 2024 was published on its X page on Tuesday.

According to the report, Agege was discovered to have the worst air quality with a hazardous rating of 103 percent, signifying that it contains a severe pollution level that is harmful to public health.

Surulere followed closely with a “very unhealthy” rating of 76.1 percent. Other areas on the list include Mushin with 47.3 percent (unhealthy) and LAMATA Kosefe with 46 percent (unhealthy).

The Lagos Port at Apapa also made the list with a score of 36.4 per cent (unhealthy). Badagry and Moloney Street reported scores of 23.8 percent and 20.7 percent, respectively, both classified as unhealthy for sensitive groups.

Egbeda recorded a score of 15.7 percent, and NIMET Oshodi followed with 14.1 percent, both indicating moderate air quality.

However, Lekki was recorded as the area with the best air quality at 10.1 percent, while LASEPA rated its own air quality at 7.6 percent.
