Adamu Garba senses danger as Tinubu hands Rivers to retired military officer

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adamu Garba, has warned that it is dangerous to give the military civil responsibilities because they will want more.

According to him, the military has to be confined in the barracks and far away from such responsibilities.

Garba said this after President Bola Tinubu suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State and handed the state to Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (Rtd.) as the Sole Administrator.

He wrote on X, "Military are like Vikings of the 11th century. You must keep them in the barracks. But once you start bringing them out and giving them civil responsibilities, they’ll want more and more and more.

"From one state, they may look at another, and another and another until they take the whole of the state (God forbid).

"There was wisdom is fighting them away from governance in 1990s and the efforts made to put them back to their barracks in early 2000s.

"When they were deployed against Boko Haram, then, emergency in the north east, then herders/farmer crisis, then bandits, not forgetting python dance and crocodile smile.

"Now that they have a whole state to themselves, allegedly, the oil richest state, what could be next?

"I’m okay with it ooo, but I pray that our democracy is not in danger."
