The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said there is nothing wrong with Japa, which is a Yoruba word used to describe fleeing Nigeria for greener pastures.
This was as she advised Nigerian travelers to avoid falling into dangerous circumstances.
Dabiri-Erewa said this a day after stating that many Nigerians who fled the country for greener pastures are now living in regrets and depression.
Dismissing the NIDCOM boss' claim, a US-based Nigerian, @ValMary89666872, said she would never regret her decision to Japa from Nigeria.
She shared on X, "Dear @abikedabiri I want to show you what I did today when I had the leisure time, this is US sky, I want you to know that I don’t and would never regret leaving Nigeria. God bless America."
Responding, Dabiri-Erewa stated that Nigeria "will ever be proud of people like you."
She continued, "The issues are with those migrating irregularly and most times to uncertainty . Just a few days ago , we helped bring back a man’s wife’s body bag. She went to Iraq in search of greener pastures that never was ! Her corpse is what returned! And another lady suffering from depression was able to return home a few weeks ago. With our help . Nothing wrong with going but avoid falling into more dangerous circumstances. That’s my message #ProudlyNigerian."
