The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) today officially presented Nigeria’s Visa policy at the Statehouse, Abuja.
The President’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad made this announcement via his Twitter handle.
MyNigeria gathered that the policy is expected to “boost economic activities in the areas of tourism, aviation, entertainment, commerce and other areas where Nigeria has a comparative advantage over other African countries”.

Nigeria’s first Visa Policy dates back to the Colonial Immigration Ordinance of 1958.
The Nigeria Visa Policy (NVP) 2020 is part of a wider reform Programme known as the ‘Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Border Strategy 2019–2023.’
The new Biometric Visa Database is able to conduct checks against domestic and international (INTERPOL) watchlists.

Nigeria now has a Biometric Visa System that links visas issued to the biometric details of the visa recipients and is able to retrieve all previous visa applications linked to each individual biometric data.
