35-year-old Lawan Musa has defeated the Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Hon Ahmed Mirwa Lawan in the Nguru II constituency of Yobe State.

Musa of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 6,648 votes to defeat Yobe's Speaker of the All Progressives Congress who got 6,466 votes according to the Returning Officer of the election, Dr Habib Muhammad.

The Speaker of the Yobe House has been in the house since 2003 when he was elected in the ticket of the All Nigerian People Party (ANPP).
