Popular human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has called out celebrities for distracting Nigerians from governance issues with their "personal matters and controversial lives."

Effiong made this statement in a post on X on Wednesday, February 12, after popular musician 2Baba expressed interest in marrying Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, the Deputy Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly and Member representing Egor Constituency.

According to the lawyer, Nigerians are preoccupied with celebrity controversies while "MTN has diabolically increased the cost of data." He lamented that "there’s no sufficient outrage or protest from us (Nigerians)" due to these distractions.

2Baba and his relationship have dominated both traditional and social media since he revealed that he had ended his long-term marriage to his wife, Annie Macaulay.

Effiong wrote via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, February 12: "One week, multiple dramas. "Nigerian celebrities are keeping us busy and distracted with their personal issues and controversial lives while the situation in the country is worsening.

"MTN has diabolically increased the cost of data, and there’s no sufficient outrage or protest from us (Nigerians). We are preoccupied with Tuface and his marital affairs."
