21 trafficked minors rescued enroute Niger for Islamic schooling

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has announced the rescue of 21 young boys by the Nigeria Immigration Service at Geidam post, along the Niger Republic / Yobe boarded in Yobe State while being trafficked to the Niger Republic.

The victims who are all indigenes of Niger State were rescued when officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted their vehicle and alerted the NAPTIP Yobe State Command.

The DG NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, in her briefing to the media stated that the Yobe State Command of the agency, on interviewing the boys, discovered that they were allegedly being sent to Niger Republic to be enrolled in an Islamic School.

However, further investigation revealed that the victims had no travel documents on them. She encouraged parents to always take the wellbeing of their wars seriously and stated that the 21 young boys will be handed over to the Niger State Government where they will be rehabilitated and reunited with their parents while also being enrolled in schools in Niger State.

In his remarks the Commissioner of Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Niger State, Ahmed Suleiman Yumu, thanked the NIS, DG NAPTIP and her team for their swift response. He stated that the Niger State Government is happy about the outcome and said that the Niger State Government will ensure that the boys are rehabilitated and reunited with their parents.
