A former presidential spokesperson for the Labour Party, Kenneth Okonkwo, has stated that Peter Obi cannot defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

"No single person can beat Tinubu alone, by whatever name you are called," Okonkwo said in response to a question on Obi's chance against Tinubu.

According to him, the reason is because “in Nigeria, we have entered into the unfortunacy that you will not only win but you have to secure your victory.”

However, Okonkwo, who spoke during a Channels Television interview on Sunday, said the only way to beat Tinubu is by forming a coalition of opposition.

“Moving to 2027, I know that there will be a coalition. Whether it is going to be between Peter Obi and Atiku, I don’t know, but there will be a coalition. Why? Because that will be the only choice the opposition has to make any impact,” Okonkwo said.

This was as he urged opposition politicians to form the kind of coalition that unseated former president Goodluck Jonathan in 2015.
