Benin Republic head coach Gernot Rohr has claimed that Super Eagles players would be rooting for his side to beat South Africa in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The Bafana Bafana defeated Lesotho 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Friday, March 21, to top Group C with 10 points.

Hugo Broos' side will be taking on the Cheetahs in their next encounter at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan on Tuesday, March 25.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Rohr, who is Nigeria's former head coach, believes that his former Super Eagles players will be happy to see his current side beat the Bafana Bafana to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“The Super Eagles of Nigeria will go all out to win against the Warriors of Zimbabwe, who will fight to stay in the race, the 71-year-old said.

“My former players will want me to beat South Africa, and it’s the same for all teams playing on Tuesday in the group.”

“You have Nigeria, who have gotten their first win also behind us. I think we have to beat South Africa because every team in the group has to beat the other team,” he added.

The Super Eagles will also host Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in their matchday six encounter on Tuesday.
