Godwin Obaseki Godwin Obaseki

The governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki, has approved an increase in the minimum wage for workers in the state from N40,000 to N70,000.

This was made known by the governor while addressing the commissioning of the recently built ultra-modern Labour House secretariat complex for labour unions in the state on Monday, April 29, 2024.

According to Obaseki, the new minimum wage will take effect from May 1, 2024.

This is coming in a moment when the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the Federal Government and other stakeholders are working around increasing the N30,000 minimum wage to match the increasing inflation in the country.

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) stated that the inflation rate for March 2024 has increased to 33.2% from 31.70% recorded in February.

Food inflation also increased to 40.1% in March 2024.
